nuah in Singlish means to take it easy – the physical and mental state of being completely relaxed
nuah is the ancient Hebrew root word for "rest", "repose", "quiet, or "to settle down"
nuah yoga is a home-based, boutique yoga studio in Yishun. We offer yoga classes suitable for newbies, beginners, fitness enthusiasts and those looking to complement their wellness routine.
Classes are designed to address the most common areas of concerns namely building strength, mobility (in contrast to flexibility), stability and finding rest.
Our small class sizes (maximum six) allow our instructor to provide you with more focused and individualised attention.
You don't need to be flexible to do yoga – anyone can do yoga as long as they're on the mat.
Hence, nuah yoga was born out of the belief that yoga meets you where you are, not where you think you should be.
Yoga is a way to calm your mind and change the way you think about yourself and yoga. We hope that our cosy yoga studio becomes a safe space where you find your nuah on the mat.
Wear a comfortable outfit that allows you to move freely without restrictions, and provides ample support. Any form of athletic gear works and you can get these at places like Decathlon outlets and Cotton On Body. You don't need socks.
We provide yoga mats, blocks, straps, knee pad and small towels. Feel free to bring a yoga mat towel if you need one. If you have sensitive knees, you're welcome to use your own knee pads as well.
Water is available at $1 per bottle and you're welcome to bring your own water.
We don't allow the use of smart watches or handphones in class, unless classes are stated as social media friendly. The intent is for you to focus fully on your practice rather than clocking statistics or videos for the 'gram.
If you would like to build a solid foundation right from the start, go for the Introduction classes. Each lesson will expand on the correct alignment, muscle engagement and sensation of various yoga poses.
Once you are familiar with the common yoga poses, you can move to the Foundation as well as Balance range of yoga classes. These are suitable for absolute beginners due to the multi-level nature of the class. They mostly focus on the correct alignment of poses so there is sufficient time for you to get into the pose, make adjustments and get used to the sensation of each pose. There are also props available to assist your practice.
Not at all! Flexibility is a result of regular yoga practice, not a requirement. The only thing you need to do yoga is to turn up on the mat.
Think of yoga as the release or stretch for your workouts. When you do workouts, you're adding tension to your muscles to build strength in them. Yoga does the opposite – it helps stretch muscles and release built up tension.
In fact, it is this tightness that causes what is called "not flexible". That's why you need to do yoga to "be flexible"!
We are located in Yishun – right in the centre of bustling Chong Pang city, which is two bus stops from Yishun MRT station.
We don't have any changing rooms or showers – please arrive ready to get on the mat.
